Rumor of the Day: October 15, 2008

No way!

Ok, everyone knows Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredson is an excellent player, but shouldn’t he draw the line at freak-of-nature? The guy just had arthoscopic knee surgery on Friday… what are his plans for this weekend? Ummm… I don’t know… maybe play an NHL game? WTF?

From the rarely-classy Ottawa Sun:

“I’m not sure at this point,” Craig Hartsburg said this morning when asked if there was any chance his captain could be in the lineup this weekend, when the Senators host the Phoenix Coyotes Friday and Boston Bruins Saturday. “I don’t want to say yes or no. We’ll just see how he is tomorrow.”
Hartsburg didn’t rule out Alfredsson practising with his teammates tomorrow, although he “wouldn’t count on” that happening.

Jeez. I don’t even know how to relate to bouncing back from any kind of surgery that quickly - Hell, I once took a week off work because I trimmed a toe nail too short and damn did that sting like the proverbial dickens. It probably has something to do with his Norse background. (No, not “Nordy Norse“.) I’ll know for sure if (when?) he shows up to the game on Saturday in a chariot pulled by two goats.

Speaking of Swedish freaks of nature, here is Victoria Silvstedt in all her glory before the plastic surgery made a clown face out of her.

Is It Us, Or Are These Awesome?

October 15th, 2008

Awesome?

I am having a lot of trouble finding anything ugly or bad to say about the new uniforms the Caorlina Hurricanes unveiled a couple of nights ago.

It’s gotta be intimidating when they swoop in on an attack looking like a flock of Johnny Cashes (Cashi?) …Actually, flock isn’t right, is it? When they group together they should be referred to as “a murder of ‘Canes”.

Hollweg Is a Misunderstood Soul: Part 2

October 15th, 2008

Mr. Hollweg

Ok, let’s do a role-playing multiple choice question. Here goes:

You have a history of hitting players from behind, and were recently suspended for 2 games for your third infraction in 41 games. The suspension took you out of your new team’s lineup for its first two games of the season. Game 3 and you’re back in the lineup. What do you try to prove in your first game with your new team?

    • a) Keep your head low and grind in the corners as per your role.
    • b) Apologize to your team and try to put your best foot forward.
    • c) Muck it up when you get a chance. Impress the coach.
    • d) Hit an opponent from behind. It is your trademark move after all.

Well if you guessed D, that would put you on par with perhaps one of the NHL’s biggest douchebags.

      Says the Toronto Star:

Some all-too-familiar stupidity from Ryan Hollweg helped cue a St. Louis comeback in the second period and earned the winger an automatic three-game suspension.

After St. Louis got on the board to make it 3-1 - former Leaf Brad Boyes banged in a rebound - Hollweg was flagged for slamming Blues’ defender Alex Pietrangelo into the boards from behind. Hollweg was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for hitting from behind.

Well my goodness. What a magnificent sonnavabitch Hollweg is turning out to be. I’d love to call him something worse but I cun’t think of anything more derogatory.(Or maybe I can… Di-did’ja catch that??) **wink**

      CONTEST: Puck That Hit

      October 15th, 2008

      How ya like it?

As advertised last week, we are ecstatic pleased to unveil our first-ever Tell-Everyone-About-PTH Contest.

Here’s how it works. It’s so simple even Ryan Hollweg could do it. Maybe.

      • Like, right here!Under the headline or bottom of each post, there is a little Email This Post link (shown here to the right). Every time you mail a story to a friend (not yourself), your name is entered into the draw. So the more people you send stories to, the higher your chance to win.
      • At the end of the contest — October 24th, 2008 — two names will be drawn to win NHL Online Shop gift certificates.
      • The  first name will win a $50 gift card, and the second will win a $25 gift card.
      • Contest is open to everyone, from anywhere.

      A couple of rules/clarifications:

      • You can send any post we have ever published…. here are two great starters: This one and this one.
      • Sending the same story to the same person more than once will not have your name entered more than once.
      • The sender’s address will be used for delivering the prize so it needs to be valid.
      • Recipient addresses also need to be valid, or else it won’t count as a mailing.
      • Sending it to your own address isn’t cool, and neither is samZ@blabla.com sending it to samuelZ@blabla.com

If there are any questions, please post them in the comments below, and we’ll update this post as required.

Thanks everyone. Spread the Word…. please.

PTH Note: Contest on the Way (Updated)

      October 10th, 2008

      Please Don’t Drop the Puck

All PTH readers take note: We have a contest on the way.On Monday, or Tuesday rather (Monday is a holiday) we will be letting you know how to participate in the first ever Tell-A-Friend About PTH contest. Ok, admitedly that’s a really shitty name for a contest, so we’ll try and find something better.

We’re still fine tuning the prizes, too, but let me just say the grand prize will be bigger than you could possibly imagine*.

*Providing that you can not imagine anything bigger than a dinner-for-one coupon at the Subway of your choice. Kidding. No we’re not. Yes we are.

UPDATE: Watch for the contest to begin Wednesday.
