Tortorella’s New Gig

Mr. Torts

OK maybe one of our favorite recently-fired NHL coaches didn’t get a new job behind a bench, but he did manage to get himself a new gig, and it ain’t that shabby. Long-time Lightning coach John Tortorella was well known for his Stanley Cup run, his temper and his hilarious inability to mince words. Reporters could always count on him for an awesome sound-bite. Well now media-types will be counting on him to deliver on a nightly basis.

From TSN:

Tortorella moves directly from behind an NHL bench into the TSN studio, making his broadcast debut as part of the NHL on TSN panel for 60 games, including weekly appearances on TSN’s marquee Wednesday Night Hockey telecasts.  The 16-year NHL coaching veteran and 2004 Jack Adams Trophy winner will appear alongside studio host James Duthie and Hockey Insiders Bob McKenzie and Darren Dreger.

Looks like Torts is replacing the intellectualy-challenged Mike Milbury. Jesus… what a trade-up! Someone who has actually had success in the NHL. For our part, we are looking forward to the first time Torts calls out Darren Dreger for pulling hockey analysis straight out of his bunghole.

And as a little reminder to how antagonistic/hilarious Fonzie can be, here’s a now-classic exchange between him and the NY Posts’ Larry Brooks.

This will be fun… Torts is going to be TSN’s Don Cherry… Glad to see numb-nut Milbury gone too. It was impossible to take him seriously, knowing what he did as a coach/GM…
