Rumor of The Day
Email This Post
Although this may seem like a cold, hard fact, it is – alas – a rumor: Tampa Bay Lightning ownership doesn’t have a fucking clue what it’s doing.
This past weekend, Tampa Bay traded away their first-round pick and two very decent defencemen to the Ottawa Senators for Andrej Meszaros. Yes, Meszaros is a good player, but the Sens received guys and a pcik that are usually reserved for proven performers. Is that Meszaro? Maybe?
Reports USA Today:
He [Meszaros] certainly has the potential to be a well-rounded, three-zone defenseman, but my read from talking to hockey folks around the NHL about Meszaros is that it is not a certainty that he will be a premium performer. That’s why the Senators, who liked him, hesitated to give him the money or the term he wanted.
By giving up the first-round pick, even though it was originally San Jose’s first-round pick, the Lightning might be crossing the line between aggressiveness and carelessness.
And as a kicker, the Lightning are pretty light on defensemen. So while they traded to get a good one, they gave away two decent ones. Kinda like cutting off her nose to spite her face, which to me seems like — What’s that? It’s supposed to be “cut off ‘your‘ nose in spite of ‘your‘ face”?… You sure? Hmmm, Well I think if I ever picked you up in my van and gave you a ride at 3:30 in the morning you’d see that my version works too.
