Dog Days of Summer: August 28

Welcome Back Joe! — In a nice bit of great news, Joe Sakic announced that he is ready for the grind for one more year.  And it looks like Colorado Avalanche GM played this one right by telling Sakic to take as much time as he needed. Calling himself “excited” to be headed to training camp, some of his teammates admitted that they were starting to get scared. I’m no expert, but he may have been frightened when he realized that an Avs team with one less Sakic is fucking scary. I also heard that on road trips, Joe’s the one who checks under the rookies’ beds for monsters.

For The Love of God! Not Again! — Ok, let’s stay with the Avs here for a sec and focus on another ripe veteran. Except this one should really take his wonky-ass foot and just leave us alone. Word out of Colorado yesterday is that Peter Forsberg is still having foot problems and won’t join the team unless he’s ok. Don’t get us wrong. We like Foppa.  Always have. But when we’re facing the prospect of another season-long “will he come back? When? Let’s document this in excrutiating detail…” , I am ready to push him off a cliff. Into a deep lake. Full of crocodiles. His foot problem has been described as a “congenital defect”, which I’m pretty sure means foot herpes. For crying out loud, rub some butter on it and lace’m up already.

We Don’t Really Want to Bring It Up… But… — Wasn’t Mats “Pick One Any One” Sundin supposed to make a decision on what the hell he’s going to do by August? We’re pretty much done August. Mats? Oh fuck it…
