10 Best Arenas. Surprised?

The Shrine… I guess…

We are seriously due for a top 10 list these days, and the good folks at Tampa Bay Online have only been too good to indulge our fancy. Please prepare yourselves for the list of Top 10 Best NHL Arenas. I guess this list can only be done every decade or so since there is barely any arena turnover these days. What’s also refreshing is that this type of list usually lists the Best Arenas of All-Time. Thank goodness we won’t have to sit through another goddamn list that has the Montreal Forum sitting on top.

So without any further delay, here is a quick rundown of the list. You can get full explanations here:

10 Columbus (Nationwide Arena)

9 Mellon Arena, Pittsburgh

8 HP Pavilion, San Jose

7 GM Place, Vancouver

6 St. Pete Times Forum, Tampa

5 Saddledome, Calgary

4 Madison Square Garden, New York

3 Rexall Place, Edmonton

2 Xcel Energy Center, Minnesota

1 Bell Centre, Montreal

Well shit.

I haven’t been to most of these places to experience them for myself but the author does a good job of outlining the reasons for his selections.

Also, I’ve , uh, heard that Montreal is pretty decent for the post game, uh, entertainment, too. (Hint: “Da nex dancer his da lovely Beeyahnkaaaaaa.”)

    1) Mellon Arena in the top 10? We’d place it in the bottom 10 of all time! It makes most minor league arenas look like the Taj-Mahal. Its a dump in every possible way
    2) The good folks of Pittsburgh should be commended for filling that place even when their team wasn’t a contender! They can’t take that rat-hole down fast enough and replace it!

Someone has obviously never been to Prudential Center…

The best hockey arena is not in the NHL. It’s a college arena in North Dakota. I shit you not. The UND Fighting Sioux play in a palace called Engelstad Arena affectionately called ‘The Ralph’.

And I’m a Minnesota Gopher and Wild fan, so I hate those guys. But, they have a fantastically awesome arena.
