Blue Jackets Prospect Gets Emo
Email This Post

The NHL had its very own WFT?! moment last night when the Columbus Blue Jacket’s learned that their 2007 second-round pick, Stefan Legein, will not be joining the team at training camp.
Why? Because he doesn’t feel like playing hockey anymore.
From the Columbus Dispatch Blog, Puck Rackers:
After a slew of phone calls to sources throughout the NHL, I finally got somebody to tell be off the record that’s it true. Just a few minutes ago, Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson confirmed it.
Legein’s mother, Christine, said around 5 p.m. that she hadn’t heard the news yet. Either Stefan has some explaining to do, or Mrs. Legein wasn’t in the talking mood. I can’t blame her if she wasn’t. UPDATE: Just talked to Stefan’s father, who said: “Until Sept. 20 (when training camp starts), he hasn’t quit anything.” He did confirm, however, that Doug Woods still represents his son as an agent.
What the hell is the real story here?? I’m guessing there’s something more to it than Legein preferring a career path that involves wearing a hair net. Sounds like father and son are due for a Hallmark-Movie-Of-The-Week conversation, too. I’m guessing that talk will go something along the lines of, “Dammit dad, the NHL was your dream not mine!! I can’t do this anymore! You knew all I ever wanted to do was dance!!”

1) Yes it reminded us of a movie, but we were thinking more like ‘Youngblood’ or something like that. Maybe this kid is afraid of some goon on the Bluejackets roster messing him up in camp? ; )

I’m thinking there might be something more serious going on here, like a drug habit or perhaps the desire to party it up with the boys rather than a dis-interest in hockey… Could also be clinical depression. I mean, who in their right mind works their entire lives to get to this point (where you can actually CASH IN LARGE), just to walk away leaving the money on the table?
Or maybe, just maybe, we’ll see him in the KHL, earning more than the entry level contract with Columbus would be worth?

1) We’d say its more likely an emotional problem/issue than a negotiating ploy. If it were the ladder he should fire his agent imeadiatly!
