In case you hadn’t heard this one in the last few days, the Toronto media is taking a 72-hour break from writing about Mats Sundin’s every bowel movement and turning their attention to the often-maligned, overpaid defenseman on their team, Bryan McCabe.

Reports The Hockey News:

Last February, Fletcher attempted to persuade McCabe to waive the clause prior to the NHL trade deadline, but the defenseman steadfastly refused, leading to speculation Fletcher might try to ban McCabe from reporting to training camp in September.  Fletcher denied this, but his determination to move McCabe undoubtedly has been a factor in the defenseman’s apparent change of heart.

McCabe’s preferred destinations will significantly limit where Fletcher can shop him and there’s no guarantee teams on that list will have interest in him, particularly given the difficulty of being able to comfortably absorb his $5.75-million cap hit.

This whole story centering on someone who’s slow, selfish and expensive reminds me of my ex-girlfriend. Come to think of it, Fletcher could probably handle this scenario the same way. Basically, if you want them to leave, just withhold sex and before you know it they’ll break up with you and have sex with your cousin at your uncle’s funeral. Problem solved and you’re welcome.
