Rumor of The Day
Email This Post
There’s a rumor floating around that the Minnesota Wild are shopping ultra-talented winger Marian Gaborik. Undoubtedly, this rumor started when neitherGaborik or Wild GM Doug Risebrough seemed eager to get a deal done. To be fair, Gaborik isn’t slated to become a free agent until the end of the coming season, but many believe that a star of his caliber should not be left until the last minute.
But contrary to rumor, looks like Risebrough is trying to get it done. Says in-the-know-hockey-guy Mike Russo:
Doug Risebrough will leave for Slovakia on Sunday for a trip he hopes “kills two birds with one stone.”The Wild general manager is flying overseas to scout… an under-18 tournament with several 2010 draft-eligible players. But Risebrough’s real intent, and undoubtedly the most important, is to make a side trip to Trencin, the hometown of Marian Gaborik, for a conversation with the high-scoring right winger…
“I haven’t arranged it yet, but obviously I want to sit down with Marian while I’m over there,” Risebrough said Friday from his offseason home…”
The article goes on to say that the Wild is planning on offering Gaborik a contract in the neighborhood of $8.5 million a year. That would be the 4th largest contract behing Ovechkin, Crosby and Malkin. Seriously? WTF?
What the shit has this guy done to deserve that kind of money? That’s more than Iginla, Lecavalier, Chara, Luongo…. and a shitload of other players that have done more and proven themselves more often. There’s no denying that he’s talented, he’s got the numbers to prove it. But to earn that much money, you need something more than numbers…. no? How about a less wonky groin for starters?
Hell, if they’re going to pay him that much there better be a stipulation in there where he has to have his whole groin region removed for the duration of the contract. Maybe store it in the freezer next to Walt Disney’s head or something. …Just make sure they don’t mix those two up when it’s time to reattach it, though. Can you imagine going through the rest of your life with Walt Disney’s head in your crotch? Di- Did I get off topic here??

1) The Wild are in a tough situation. They are an offensively starved team, especially with the FA losses this summer, yet we don’t see gaborik as a true super star deserving of that kind of cash(yet)
2) Do they risk: a) Waiting to see how he does this year and risk losing him for nothing next July
b) Sign him to a mega deal that makes him untradeable if he begins to not earn it(suck)
c) Trade one of their few scoring stars and probably not get a comparable player in return

The problem as far as I see it is that there aren’t too many players of his talent level in the NHL, regardless of past accomplishments. Gaborik went public with an apology to people who pick him in hockey pools because the Wild play a Lemaire-system, and therefore the numbers just don’t come. He was a shrinking violet in the playoffs last season, which may explain why people roll their eyes at the numbers being thrown around for Gabby, but let’s be realistic. Who else do they have? Now that Rolston and Demitra are gone, it’s really just Gaborik and Bouchard. If you’re going to pay Bouchard over $5M per season, Gaborik has to be worth $8M or more… If they don’t extend him, and that means paying through the nose, he WILL walk next season, no doubt about it…

That photo was hot-at-first-glance but then you notice everything’s a little… Off. The boobs, the face, the curious bulge in her panties…

conspiracy theory time here: gaborik’s best buddy, demitra, has gone off and signed with the canucks. the ‘nucks, bless ‘em, have no more offence up their sleeve than your average pee-wee team. sundin is a waste of indecisive space and the nucks have cap space galore. so my guess is: gaborik would like a move to vancouver and gillis wants it to happen too. he can either swing a deal now (bieksa and picks/prospects for gabby) and get his signature on a contract extension, or play a long game and hope he can snag gaborik as a UFA next year (risky).
the only problem with this scenario is that it assumes gillis has enough hockey smarts to make it happen………
