Rumor of the Day
Email This Post
Let’s stick with the Florida Panters a bit more. This Rumor of the Day isn’t really a rumor, but it does raise some questions that can be rumor fodder…
Remember Chad Kilger? While he played with the Toronto Maple Leafs he rode a roller coaster of ups and downs, mostly downs. At the trade deadline last February, he was traded to the Florida Panters but never reported to the team. Nearly 7 months later and GM Jacques Martin doesn’t think Kilger will be ready to play this season either.
Once again, from the Miami Herald:
The team says Kilger is dealing with undisclosed family issues, something that is apparently still unresolved.
“He’s still dealing with some personal issues, and at this point, I don’t think he’ll be playing,” Martin said. “We still hold his rights. He’s indicated to me that if he were to play, he’d want to play for us. We’re not the issue.”
That everyone is so friggin’ understanding in this mess really makes me wonder how horrible his issues are. If someone were really sick, then you’d think someone would have reported it by now. We’re not here to judge, but Martin Brodeur won a Stanley Cup while going through a messy, public divorce; Saku Koivu missed all but 2 months a season while battline cancer; Phil Kessel even less. What could be keeping Kilger away for so long?
Since I’ve already exceeded my number of Prick Points for the day with this morning’s post, I figure I’ll (try to) turn it off for this one. I hope this is something that Kilger and family can get through and get their lives back to normal, whether that includes the NHL or not.
If it helps, I know I’ve always found that staring at Abigail Clancy to be quite therapeutic.
