When Toronto Grows Up…

… It wants to be just like the Detroit Red Wings. No, seriously!
Gord Kirke, a lawyer working for Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment, has gone on the record saying that his organization is seeking to emulate the Red Wings’ style of solid drafting, excellent coaching and stocking the head office full of hockey knowledgeable people. Hmmm… it should only take them, what? About 12 years?
Reports the Canadian Press:
“…Kirke was able to confirm that the team is looking at hiring a few different individuals to fill various roles because he believes that’s the best pathway to success in the “age of specialization.”
“There are people who are better at various aspects of being an executive in sports,” said Kirke. “So if you put together people with various talents and pool them as a team, I think you get a great result.
“I think the Detroit model is a very exciting and good one of that concept.”
The Red Wings, of course, are currently two wins away from capturing the franchise’s fourth Stanley Cup in a little more than a decade.
Might be a little tough getting people with “various talents” to fill the position… especially when one of those talents is to stay the hell away from Toronto.
If you take a step back and look at this, doesn’t it remind you of the 6 year-old boy saying “I want to be Batman when I grow up!” ?
Except in this case it’s a 37 year-old guy with a beer gut who watches way too much porn and lives in his mom’s basement.
