Remember Alexei Yashin? Sometimes he’s there, most of the time he isn’t….?
Well he’s been off playing in Russia ever since the New York Islanders bought out the rest of his fairly substantial contract. In fact, he’s stuck on their payroll until the 2014-15 season making $2 million+… ya… that’s f-ing stupid.
But word out now that he’s ready to make his return to the NHL.
As reported by the Ottawa Sun:
“Some teams were asking me about (Yashin) at the under-18 championships in (Kazan, Russia last month),” said agent Todd Diamond. “We had a few teams that were inquiring. He had a great year over there. He was the MVP of the league and he was the leading scorer in the playoffs.
And who are the few teams? None other than the Montreal Canadiens and the Minnesota Wild.
Isn’t this kind of akin to the Seinfeld episode where Kramer was the master of the dojo but only because the rest of the class was half his size? It’s great that he’s an ace in the minors but if this dude is coming back he better bring the best he’s got.

Seriously though, I believe Yashin still has a lot of ability, and always has. The problem is his seemingly inconsistent efforts. I’ve always defended him by saying he has that lazy looking cadence when he skates, but in his last season on the Island, he looked like he was mailing it in on some nights…
Still, I think the Rangers should take a shot at him, but with a heavily incentive-laden deal. They could play him on LW.

1) Ah, loved that take on yashin visa vie ‘Operation’. It was funny when we first saw it a year ago, and its still funny now! Why? Because by and large its true!
2) If any team decides to bring back that cancer to their team they deserve everything he brings. Maybe 58 year old wife/GF, former model/strumpet Carol Alt, or has she found abother younger NHL-er to replace him?

as far as being the biggest bitch…Ozzy is hands down.
To use an analogy:
Ozzie is the pathetic boyfriend that can not move on from the only girl he has ever dated (the Red Wings). The Red Wings are the girl that dumped their boyfriend and decided to go out with the richer, hotter, older man (Hasek). The richer, hotter, older man is now impotent so the girlfriend goes back to her old boyfriend. The two rekindle their relationship and are ready to get back together while they figure out a good way to get rid of the older, now impotent fellow.
