So in order for Hockey USA to convince Fonzie John Tortorella to take the head coaching job for the US team at the World Championships they had to make some promises. Tortorella wanted to be certain that Hockey USA was committed to assembling a team of young go-getters as opposed to a team of under-achieving, lazy-ass, strip-club-loving veterans. From TampaBay.com:
Tortorella said, and Thrashers general manager Don Waddell confirmed, it took a commitment from USA Hockey to supply young players that are “ready to win” to seal the deal.
“We need to look by the old school,” Tortorella said. “We want players to go over there and want to play, not look at it as a chance for a vacation and then play some hockey.”
He forgot to mention that they also need to have rock-solid self-esteem for when he rips them a new cornhole in the post-game interview.
