Rumor of the day… I like that… Let’s run with that on a daily basis.
Today’s rumor, once again from the pretty reliable Eklund, has Olli Jokinen being traded from the Panthers to the Canadiens.
The Canadiens are looking like the team in the driver’s seat right now to possibly grab Jokinen, but the Panthers are asking for a lot in return I am hearing. The deal would include two current roster forwards and a defensive prospect I am told. I am also told that, “At any minute the Sabres could sweep in and close the deal.”
I don’t really see how this makes sense. GM Gainey has a history of not trading away young talent, and Montreal is already pretty kick-ass on the scoring front. But I guess a bona fide center can’t hurt.
On another note, how annoying is this poor Olli? Doesn’t he go through this every friggin year? Start off alright, tank by mid-season, then entertain trade rumors until the deadline. This must be getting old fast.
